The Flood, an honest and moving musical tribute to the power of community in the face of adversity, will be performed on Thursday 1 May at 7.30pm.
Produced by AKA Theatre Company, The Flood is inspired by the true events of Boxing Day 2015, when the small Yorkshire town of Hebden Bridge was devastated by the worst floods in a century. Homes and businesses were submerged, and the town faced a long road to recovery. But amid the destruction, something remarkable happened—a community came together.
Honest and touching, with a generous dash of Northern humour, The Flood is a love letter to the resilience, compassion, and unity of the people of Hebden Bridge. This heartfelt musical is performed by a talented cast of multi-rolling actor-musicians, who bring to life dozens of real-life stories from across the town, representing its diverse and passionate residents.
From shopkeepers and schoolchildren to volunteers and farmers, these voices come together to create a vibrant and emotionally rich picture of a community that refused to be beaten by the forces of nature.
With original songs woven through its powerful storytelling, The Flood brings music, heart, and humanity to the stage—celebrating both the individual experiences and the collective strength that emerged from the floodwaters. It’s a timely reminder of the power of togetherness in challenging times.
