West Yorkshire Savoyards brings Gilbert & Sullivan's Ruddigore to the Richmond stage

Touring company, the West Yorkshire Savoyards will be making their first visit to the Georgian on Saturday 5 October with the Gilbert and Sullivan gothic melodrama, ‘Ruddigore’.

The piece is not as well-known as some G&S comic-operas, but arguably funnier and more tongue-in- cheek than ever.

Audiences can expect all the familiar G&S elements: terrific music and singing, social satire, comic pathos – but with a seasoning of sinister spectres! A family curse means a baronet must commit a crime every day or perish. In trying to escape his fate, he encounters dancing sailors, frustrated bridesmaids and a chorus of ghostly ancestors. What could possibly go wrong?! Be prepared for laughs, thrills and fabulous music in this touring production, directed by Graham Weston with professional orchestra conducted by musical director, Oliver Longstaff.

The ‘Savs’, a Gilbert and Sullivan touring company made up of hand-picked singers and musicians from across the north of England, have been delighting audiences in the region  for many years,  building up a following across the north. The show’s director, popular comic actor and singer, Graham Weston, plays the hapless Robin Oakapple, while the object of his affections, pretty ‘Rose Maybud’ is played by Manchester soprano, Helen Fieldsend. The role of Sir Despard, once famously played by actor Vincent Price, is taken by Manchester baritone, Anthony Noden.

Tickets are £6 for accompanied young people under 16, and £18 for adults. They are available online via the Georgian Theatre Royal Website   www.georgiantheatreroyal.co.uk or through the box office on 01748 825252
